A number of Mechanical Engineering faculty and students took part in the International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM). The conference was held in Montreal, August 2016.

The three professors from Mechanical Engineering are:

  • Pushpendra Singh gave an invited talk on "Fluid dynamics of hydrophilous pollination in Ruppia (widgeon grass)". This work is done in collaboration with Naga Musunuri and Prof. Ian Fischer of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Dan Bunker of Biological Sciences, and Dr. Susan Pell of United States Botanic Garden.
  • Shawn A. Chester spoke about "Combined Modeling and Experiments Polymeric Gels"
  • Anthony Rosato was part of two lectures (1) "Magnetic point vortex dynamics in the plane" in collaboration with Denis Blackmore from our Math Deptartment.  And (2) "The Influence of Non-uniform Vibration on Granular Jamming, Segregation and Self-assembly" in collaboration with colleague Christopher Windows-Yule at the University of Twente, Netherlands.

And the three graduate students from Mechanical Engineering are:

  • Edison Amah spoke about "Electric Field Driven Hierarchical Self-assembly of Monolayers of Mixtures of Particles" with Prof. Pushpendra Singh and Prof. Ian Fischer.
  • Rajasekhar Tripuraneni spoke about "Real-time measurement of biaxial modulus of Germanium anodes for li-ion batteries" with Prof. Siva Nadimpalli.
  • Shuolun Wang spoke about "Modeling the effect of inelasticity on instabilities in soft dielectrics" with Prof. Shawn A. Chester.
