Who is my advisor?

The advisor for Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors is Mrs. Lucie Thibeaud Tchouassi. The advisor for Seniors and New Transfers is Dr. Kwabena A Narh for ME students and Dr. Athanassios Bladikas or IE students and Co-op students will see Prof. George Abdou.

 

How many credits are required to graduate with BS degree of ME or EE?

Students majoring in Mechanical Engineering need to complete a minimum of 130 credits, while students majoring in Industrial Engineering need a minimum of 128 credits.

 

What is the best time to meet with my advisor for advisement?

Follow the advisement period timeline and see your advisor during your appointed time.  This is as follows:

    Appointed Advisement period for Fall Semesters:

  •      If your current GPA is equal or greater than 2.500, your advisement period starts every 3rd week in February and ends at the end of 2nd week in March.
  •      If you current GPA is less than 2.500, your advisement period starts every 3rd week in March and ends at the end of 1st week in April.

 Appointed Advisement period for Spring Semesters: 

  •      If your current GPA is equal or greater than 2.500, your advisement period starts every 3rd week in September and ends at the end of 1st week in October.
  •      If you current GPA is less than 2.500, your advisement period starts every 2nd week in October and ends at the end of 1st week in November.

 

What are the hours that my advisor is available?

Dr. Albert Narh is available by appointment only, please stop by or contact the front desk.

Dr. Athanassios Bladikas is available via walk-ins and appointments; please contact him via email to check his availability.

Mrs. Lucie Thibeaud Tchouassi is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays by appointments and on Wednesdays and Fridays for walk-ins, please use the provided link to make an appointment https://lthibeaudtchouassi.acuityscheduling.com.

What are the office hours of MIE department?

Office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Summer Hours are Monday to Thursday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

 

What classes am I supposed to take for next semester?

The Course Checklist for Mechanical Engineering and for industrial Engineering can be found on the MIE website.

 

How many credits are required to do the minor?

To take additional 3 to 5 courses in a special area, a student can claim a minor in that area.  A number of minors are available at NJIT. More information can be found at http://www.njit.edu/registrar.

 

Where do I register for my classes?

Follow advising procedure and registration is performed online at Highlander Pipeline, at http://my.njit.edu.

 

Where do I go for help for my class?

Contact The Center for Academic and Personal Enrichment (CAPE) which is located in Kupfrian Hall.

 

How do I join the BS/MS program?

The eligibility for joining BS/MS program is junior standing with cumulative GPA 3.0.

 

How can an advisor help me do well in NJIT?

Advisors can assist all students in making their academic decisions.
