Learning Beyond the Classroom

At NJIT, your learning doesn't end at the classroom door.  We offer lots of opportunities to extend your learning beyond the classroom.

Student Organizations

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering sponsors student chapters of a number of professional organizations to assist students in their professional development and career growth.

  • The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), founded 84 years ago, is NJIT's oldest on-campus professional society. Its goals are to support students' development as engineers and as leaders, and to provide networking opportunities with industry leaders.
  • The Graduate Association of Mechanical Engineers (GAMEs) is an organization through which graduate students of the Mechanical Engineering department work together to improve and assist fellow graduate students, academically and socially.
  • Pi Tau Sigma (Pi Tau) is a mechanical engineering honor society, instituted in order to establish a closer bond of fellowship among its members, which will result in mutual benefit to those men and women in the study and in the profession of mechanical engineering.
  • The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is an international organization devoted to advancing transportation and mobility technology on land, air, and sea.

There are many student opportunities to work in our laboratories.  See a list of our mechanical and industrial engineering labs.
